Pentjak Silat
Pentjak Silat is the devastating art of Indonesia. It has been practiced as a formalized combative art as far back as the sixth century AD. There exist over 500 styles of Pentjak Silat practiced throughout Indonesia, Malaysia, and the southern Philippines.
Our Silat includes the following: complex hand and foot strikes, unique joint locking and choking techniques, sweeping, throwing, and body manipulation.
With philosophy and concepts for fighting and self-defense, training in Pentjak Silat gives our students a defensive awareness of their fighting environment as well as the ability to effectively deal with multiple attackers.
The core of Indonesian combative arts are generally referred to as Pentjak Silat. Djurus, langkahs, kembangan, and sambuts are all important factors in the individuals progression of learning Pentjak Silat. Djurus teach us the correct upper body motions including various strikes with fists, elbows, forearms, palms, fingers; as well as parrying, deflecting, and proper body alignment in conjunction to your opponent. Langkahs makes use of the various lower body positions including footwork patterns & positions and leg strengthening exercises.
After these two training methods have been practiced repeatedly over a lengthy period of time, the practitioner can progress into combining the djurus & langkahs together. From the djurus, the practitioner can parry a punch to the face, then combine it with a kick, sweep, or an evasive motion from the langkahs. The end result is a swift response to the attack.
